Introduction

Recently, I had the opportunity to visit the Inuits Open Source Cafe along with some of my classmates. It was an exciting experience that I won’t soon forget.

Overview of Inuits Open Source Cafe

Even though we arrived a bit late due to my internship, the team at Inuits was kind enough to give us some summary presentations about their company and their innovative use of open-source technology. The presentations were informative and engaging. During the presentation, the company took us through what they do, highlighting their range of services and how they channel innovation through open-source technology. Seeing first-hand how adopting this approach drives them was undoubtedly fascinating and noteworthy

Linux in a school environment

The second presentation was about using Linux as an operating system for school. I’ve considered doing it but never actually went through with it. However, it was interesting to see how the team at Inuits shared their dislike for Windows and showed us solutions on how to use school applications using Docker containers or Wine.

Networking and socializing

A standout moment from our trip was having the opportunity to chat with a few employees from Inuits. Their insights provided us with valuable information and enriched our overall experience. I had some fascinating conversations, especially with Vince, a cybersecurity enthusiast from the Inuits team. He explained his role as a cybersecurity specialist at Inuits and how he had followed some courses at Howest. Witnessing the depth of passion he held for his profession was genuinely motivational.
Of course, only visiting the Inuits Open Source Cafe would be complete with food and drinks. The amount of pizza fueled our conversations and created a cheerful atmosphere.

Key Takeaways

Overall, I had a great time at the Inuits Open Source Cafe. The experience proved enlightening and provided insights on leveraging it for progressive solutions. I recommend visiting the Inuits Open Source Cafe if you ever can. Who knows, you get to meet fascinating people and learn something new!
